Update Sep 19: Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in our bid for this project. Better luck next time!
The provision of accessible public toilets in the central area of the Uralla Central Business Area.
PLEASE NOTE – the image is indicative of what we are proposing for this project.
What benefits will this project provide?
A central area of the Business District between Salisbury and King Streets does not have public toilets. There is a demonstrated need for such a facility as a petition circulating the community recently identified. There are accessible public toilets around the Salisbury/Bridge Street intersection, however there are none north of that point and the many disabled, and able bodied, visitors and residents are disadvantaged when the need arises.
How will our community be better off as a result of this project?
The business community have identified that visitors, and residents, avoid the northern sector of the CBD so accessible public toilets in the centre of the CBD will facilitate longer and easier shopping time; thus increasing the economy of Uralla and the viability of central CBD businesses. The Community will also benefit from the addition of much required facilities increasing the attractiveness of an already popular destination.
How will this project be carried out (who will be involved, when will it happen)?
The Uralla Shire Council has provided support by agreeing to the positioning of the facility within the entry to the parking area at the rear of the Central Business District. The planned facility is a modular turnkey unit, including a pad, that can be placed on site with the minimum amount of preparation, save connection to services, water, sewer and electricity that are all available within the parking area.
Why should people vote for this project?
- There is a demonstrated need for a Central Business District accessible toilet facility in Uralla.
- Currently, the nearest accessible public toilets are at the corner of Salisbury and Bridge Streets.
- There is broad community and business support for this project.
